Gastronomy and local produce

Markets, a reflection of Provençal identity...

Provençal markets are always lively. As you stroll among the stalls, you will be enchanted by the vibrant colors and the sun-kissed scents of the South.

You will discover a rich variety of regional products: fruits and vegetables from local growers, olive oil, fragrant honey, culinary specialties, aromatic plants with diverse perfumes, and authentic craftsmanship.

Some markets nearby

Valréas (Wednesday morning): a weekly gathering much appreciated by the locals.

Vaison-la-Romaine (Tuesday morning): up to 350 exhibitors, one of the largest markets in the region.

Grignan (Tuesday morning): a friendly market bringing together local producers and exhibitors.

Nyons (Thursday morning): a traditional market with fruits, vegetables, flowers, and local produce.
From June to September, the Sunday morning market focuses more on Provençal specialties.

Richerenches (Saturday morning, mid-November to mid-March): the largest truffle market in Europe, where truffle growers and brokers meet in a unique atmosphere.

The vineyards

A stay at Clos Chantebise will also be an opportunity to explore the Côtes du Rhône vineyards. You will be able to taste some of the wines that have made the region famous.

The truffle

From mid-November to mid-March, truffles also contribute to the Enclave's renown. During this period, Richerenches, 4 km and 5 minutes from Clos Chantebise, comes alive with a famous truffle market, where you can stroll and observe producers and brokers. More than 50% of all truffles delivered to the main markets of southeastern France pass through Richerenches. This represents 30% of the national production.

You can taste this prized fungus in an omelet during various events.

Some producers will allow you to follow the truffle hunt among the truffle oaks.

Lavender and olive

Lavender blooms in June and July, coloring the countryside a blue-violet and perfuming it. You can observe the harvesting of this plant as well as the distillation of the flowers. In the region, the production of essential oils is primarily intended for cosmetics, deodorants, laundry detergents, and soaps.

Nyons is known for its olives. You can explore the olive grove trail on foot, an easy 4 km walk through the countryside.

The dominant variety is the Tanche, a black olive, fleshy and slightly wrinkled, which appears as soon as the winter cold arrives.
The Nyons black olive is harvested between December and January. It is picked when ripe. The largest fruits are used for eating. Olive oil is extracted from the smaller fruits.
